Claude
Assistant known for long-context reasoning and writing that needs less editing.
Anthropic's assistant, available on the web, as desktop apps, and through an API. It handles long documents in a single pass, which makes it a common choice for reviewing contracts, working through large codebases, and any task where the input does not fit in a short window. Claude Code brings the same models into the terminal as a coding agent.
People usually land on Claude after hitting a length or nuance wall somewhere else — a long document to reason over, a codebase to hold in context, a piece of writing where tone matters. That is the shape of the tool: fewer bolt-on surfaces than its main rival, more capacity on the tasks it does cover. The practical consequence is that it is a poor fit as an only tool if you also need image generation, and a strong one if your work is mostly text you care about.
Our take
Strongest on long documents and on writing that has to sound like a person wrote it. The large context window is the practical differentiator — you can put a whole contract, a long transcript or several files in at once and ask about them together, which changes what kinds of work are possible rather than just making them faster. Less of an all-in-one than its main competitor.

Best for
- Long documents read and reasoned about in one pass
- Writing and editing where tone and specificity matter
- Analysis where you want the reasoning shown rather than a bare answer
Limitations
- Fewer built-in extras than the broadest all-in-one assistants
- Long-context work consumes quota quickly on metered plans
- Still needs fact-checking on names, dates and figures
When to pick something else
- Wanting image generation and every other modality in one subscription
- Very short factual lookups, where a search-based tool answers faster
Key features
- Long context window handles book-length input in one pass
- Projects feature keeps reference documents across conversations
- Claude Code runs as a terminal-based coding agent
- API access with prompt caching for repeated context
